A new bathroom remodeling project in Toronto’s northwest is drawing interest from people looking to save money on the price tag of the project.
The Toronto Housing Corp. says it will work with a builder to renovate the home with a tub and a large kitchen.
The home was sold in August for $42,000.
The owner says it has already received several offers for the project and is considering a number of potential options.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
“We have a couple of properties in the area that are in need of a new bathroom, so we decided to look into a project that could provide a little bit of a savings and get that completed,” said Jennifer Ziegler, executive director of the TCHC.
Zieglevis home has been on the market for about a year and a half.
She says a tub is just one of many features needed for the home.
“In this area of the city there are a lot of people who really need to have their bathrooms renovated,” she said.
Zieler says the home is currently being sold as a single family home and the buyer is not expecting any major renovations at this time.
She said she doesn’t anticipate the project will be complete until next spring.
“At this point, I’m looking at a project of about five to six months to finish this project,” Ziegervis said.
A tub and kitchen is among the items being considered for the renovation.
TCHCs renovation of the home has raised concerns about accessibility for those living in the building.
The company says some of the equipment needs to be removed and moved in order to allow access to the kitchen and bathrooms.
“The renovation is part of the building’s comprehensive remodel program that includes removing and replacing all structural elements in the home including its ceiling and wall,” the company said in a news release.
The remodel is expected not to affect residents who have not yet been relocated.
The renovation is being done on a two-story building in the city’s west end.
A similar project was completed in 2013 in Scarborough.
The renovations have drawn criticism because the owner says the bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible.
Ziegers home has not been listed on the MLS for the remodel and it is unclear when it will be sold.
