An “Rent A Shark” contract that was awarded to an Austin-based contractor for a bathroom remodeling project was not properly vetted, according to a recent complaint filed by the city.
In the complaint, filed Tuesday in Austin Municipal Court, resident Amanda Jones and her neighbors are accusing the company of not properly supervising its contractor, Danbury Associates, in the project.
The city’s inspector general’s office received a complaint regarding Danbury’s contract with the contractor, dated April 12, 2018, that was to be performed at the Danbury Home Removals in Austin.
The complaint, which was filed under seal on Tuesday, said the city “did not verify” that Danbury was the firm that was responsible for the remodel work and that the project was “shaky.”
The city inspector general has launched an investigation into the project, which has been on the books since at least 2018.
The contractor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
