By the time John Henry Thomas’s new office opened in March, the former director of the US Department of Energy’s Office of Science and Technology Policy had already made a significant number of structural changes.
The new office was designed by architects and engineers who’d worked on the White House, the Pentagon, and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.
But Thomas’s office, in particular, was built entirely from scratch.
“It’s an enormous undertaking to build from scratch,” Thomas told Business Insider.
“You’re trying to make a project that is very high-performance.
But you’re also trying to do things that are affordable, that are high-impact, that have the greatest value for the client.”
The new Thomas building has been built from scratch, and it has a lot in common with the original.
It has a floor-to-ceiling glass window that lets in sunlight, and the walls are made from recycled materials.
But the biggest change is that the office is now entirely open, which makes it more energy efficient.
In fact, the office itself is now 50% more efficient than the office of former director Tom Perez, who resigned in July 2017 amid a corruption scandal.
The space is designed to look more like an office building than a typical office.
“I like to think that the space will be more of a collaborative space that you can be with colleagues and collaborate with,” Thomas said.
“But at the same time, it is going to be a really high-volume space.”
The design is also entirely modular, with walls, floors, ceilings, and ceilings that can be folded and bolted together.
The result is that Thomas’s building is not just a building of the future.
It is the future, but a high-value building that has a real purpose.
“John Henry Thomas was building this building with a purpose,” David Wohl, a senior vice president at the Architectural Design Group, told Business Week.
“He wanted a space that he could be with his colleagues, but also had a high energy efficiency.”
The interior of the office, which is open to the elements, is designed in a way that is both elegant and practical.
The building’s windows are all made from glass.
“Glass windows are a fantastic idea,” Wohl said.
But when it comes to the interior, Thomas’s design also brings with it the potential for a lot of energy use.
“The interior space, for instance, has a very strong air-conditioning,” Thomas explained.
“That means that the air-to–air venting and the air conditioner that’s inside the building, it’s all designed to be efficient, so the air is getting out to the outside.”
The office is also equipped with two large windows, one that looks out to a parking lot and the other that looks into the lobby.
The air conditioners can be adjusted to operate at the highest efficiency.
“In the future we’re going to see a lot more of the space being converted to office space,” Wiegel, the architect, told the site.
“We’re going in the direction of a lot less office space.”
As Thomas’s predecessor left the White the building was already being targeted for a number of energy efficiency improvements.
The White House was designed to run on 100% renewable energy by 2030, and Wohl told Business Buzz that he expected the new Thomas to achieve a similar energy efficiency.
And, of course, it was all designed around the new Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, or ENERGY STAR, program.
As of 2017, the Office of the President was still a relatively young office with only about 500 employees.
But now, with Thomas’s departure, the new White House will have a much larger workforce and more space to operate in.
“When I was running the Office, we were doing all of our energy efficiency work in the office,” Whelg, the building architect, said.
In the office there are also some changes that have been made in an attempt to keep costs down.
The ceiling is now made of glass.
Wohl has also gone ahead and built the office into a sort of museum.
This is a kind of small museum of the history of the Office.
There are a lot other spaces in the building that are being converted into offices.
One such space is the office library.
“There’s a lot going on in that space,” Thomas, the interior architect, explained.
The library is a sort to make sure that everyone knows where they are in the White house.
It also provides a place to store things like calendars, and also the paper documents that are used to track energy usage.
“All the things that were part of the paper calendar in the old White House are now just there for the people that are going to have their energy usage tracked in the new space,” he explained.
