A $400-million house remodeling project in Danburys home office remodel room cost $4.6 million more than originally estimated, according to the state Department of Finance.
State tax records show the renovation cost was more than twice the original estimate.
Danbury’s Department of Financial Regulation has not provided an explanation for the discrepancy.
State officials said in a statement that they’re “pleased” that the project was completed.
It was “not a cost overrun” and the project “is an opportunity for taxpayers to have a fair, transparent process,” the statement said.
The state agency also said the project includes a “new” front porch and a new kitchen.
The project is being built in a $6.6-million project at a site where two houses are currently located.
The construction is scheduled to begin in the fall.
The property has a current assessed value of $4,764,936.
